Clear with purpose, then make grouped fights unavoidable

Plan overview

Start with a conditioned full clear unless an exposed lane gives Q a reliable follow-up window. Path so the clear ends near a lane with priority, Scuttler, or the next objective, then recall when camps are down, an item breakpoint is available, and no objective is imminent. Your first transition is from farming to setup: push nearby waves, sweep 60–90 seconds before spawn, and use Q or R to make the enemy enter without its jungler or a key carry. When ahead, repeat this sequence through enemy camps, towers, and objectives; do not turn control into an unneeded chase. When behind, keep farming for catch-up XP, protect your strongest ally, and trade contested objectives for camps, waves, or structures. In every fight, your win condition is access plus follow-up, not the number of times you press Q.

Farm toward a reachable first play

0:55–8:00, especially the first clear, 2:55 Scuttler, and the 5:00 dragon window

Build the first clear around a real ending position rather than a fixed route. Full clear when lanes lack setup, your champion needs levels, or an early river fight is unfavorable; choose a three-camp gank only when a lane is exposed and Q can create follow-up. At the 2:55 Scuttler window, contest only with nearby priority and workable health. If ahead, use a successful Q or Flash burn to collect camps and establish the next objective side. If behind, mirror away from the enemy and complete the jungle quest through safe farming.

Choose farming unless the first gank is concrete

If your champion clears healthily, your lanes have no clear setup, and the enemy does not threaten an immediate invade, use a conditioned full clear toward the side of your first useful play. Finish near a lane with priority or the 2:55 Scuttler window, then reset or take only a visible, low-risk gank. If a lane is overextended with no escape or a crash is arriving, a three-camp route can replace the full clear, but the lost camps must buy a real summoner, kill, or objective window.

With Amumu

If Amumu has Bandage Toss or Curse of the Sad Mummy available and is moving toward an angle, stay within one screen and be ready to damage the target he reaches. His entry creates value only when allies arrive during the stun window; do not wait several seconds before following.
If Amumu misses Q or uses his ultimate on a low-value target, protect the retreat and avoid starting a second fight immediately. His team should help him exit or reset rather than treating the first engage as permission to chase through fog.
If your damage is magic-based, attack targets marked by Cursed Touch while Amumu is fighting nearby. This makes his first contact more valuable, but it still requires a target your team can safely reach.
If an objective spawns within 90 seconds, help push the nearest waves before walking with Amumu to sweep the entrance. His reliable engage is much stronger when the enemy must choose between entering the river and losing the wave.

Identity, strengths and limits

Reach the group, lock the fight, convert the curse

Jungle · Vanguard · Teamfight access

Amumu is a mana-based vanguard who wins by reaching several enemies, applying Cursed Touch, and holding them in his area damage and crowd control long enough for magic damage allies to finish the fight. Bandage Toss is both his access route and his main positional risk: a hit lets him pull into danger, while a miss often leaves him walking without a clean entry. Despair rewards staying near targets, Tantrum becomes more available as he is hit, and Curse of the Sad Mummy gives him a decisive teamfight window when allies can follow. He is not a long-range pick machine, a duelist who should invade alone, or an excuse to force every fight without priority.

Invading or dueling alone before your durable stats and team access matter.
Keeping Despair active while out of range, draining mana without sustained contact.
Chasing after a successful engage instead of banking a tower, wave, or objective.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, make every Bandage Toss answer one question: can my team reach this target immediately? Before Q, check the minimap and count nearby allies. If two or more can follow and the target is overextended, commit and keep W on while you fight in range. If not, continue your clear, hold Q, and arrive at the next objective with your ultimate, Smite, and teammates available. Your test is not how many Qs you throw; it is whether each committed Q creates a kill, summoner spell, or objective window.
