Game plan · Jungle
Clear with purpose, then turn contact into an objective
Plan overview
Volibear’s plan is a repeated cycle: clear toward a chosen side, act only when a lane or objective supplies a visible condition, then bank the result in camps, waves, structures, or an objective. Early, prioritize the jungle quest and a reliable first reset; replace the full clear with a three-camp gank only when Q has a genuine approach window. As the map opens, path so your clear ends 30–60 seconds before the next timer, prepare vision with allies, and use E, Q, W, and R to control the entry rather than chase kills. When ahead, turn a won fight into tower pressure, enemy camps, or the next objective and use R to make dives or sieges safer. When behind, farm for catch-up experience, mirror the enemy away from their visible side, and trade instead of forcing a Smite fight. At every transition, ask whether Volibear is creating a numbers advantage or merely walking into one.
Plan by phase
Build the first contact window
0:00–8:00, especially the first clear, Scuttler window, and the first dragon at 5:00
Start with a conditioned clear that ends near the lane or river side matching your team’s win condition. Volibear’s early decision is economy versus a real approach: take the full route when lanes lack setup, or cut to a level-three gank when an enemy is extended and vulnerable to Q. After the first play, return to respawning camps so the jungle quest, gold, and experience keep pace. If behind, avoid apology ganks and use safe clears for catch-up; if ahead, use priority to invade only when you have an exit.
Game situations
Path
Choose the clear that funds your next play
If your champion clears comfortably and your lanes have no clear level-three setup, use a conditioned full clear toward the lane you want to influence, then check the nearby Scuttler or a visible free gank. If a lane is extended past the river with its escape tool unavailable, a three-camp path can replace the farm line; otherwise preserve the camps and your role-quest tempo.
With Volibear
If Volibear is moving toward your lane and the enemy is extended, preserve your own crowd control until his Q connects; layering control after the stun gives his W repeat cast time and makes the gank more reliable.
When Volibear prepares an objective 60–90 seconds early, push the adjacent wave and move with him rather than asking him to start alone. His value rises when allies hold the entrance and he can keep Smite for the finish.
If Volibear lands R on a tower or choke and your team is already close, focus the target he can keep in range instead of splitting damage across the backline. His pattern wants a reachable extended fight, not a long chase.
When Volibear is behind, help him protect a safe farming side and respond to visible plays rather than demanding repeated ganks. A completed clear and a cross-map trade can restore his level and role-quest tempo.
Identity, strengths and limits
Turn contact into territory
JUNGLE · JUGGERNAUT · SUSTAINED PRESSURE
Volibear jungle is a mana-using juggernaut who turns repeated contact into pressure. His passive rewards sustained combat with attack speed and eventual nearby magic damage; Q supplies a conditional stun, W marks a target and rewards a second cast with bonus damage and healing, and E lets him trade inside its lightning zone for a shield. R is a commitment tool for landing on a valuable area, gaining health and temporarily disabling nearby towers. He wins by reaching a target with team support, surviving the extended fight, and converting that space into camps, structures, or objectives. He is not an assassin, a blind invader, or a champion who should force every lane before his clear and cooldowns create a real window.
Strengths
Sustained close-range pressure from passive attack-speed scaling and repeated W contact.
Q stun and E slow create conditional access and control around jungle entrances.
E rewards fighting inside a chosen zone with a shield, improving extended trades.
R combines an area landing, bonus health, and temporary tower disable for conditional dives and sieges.
Limits and risks
Forcing level-three ganks into lanes without enemy overextension or a missing escape tool.
Invading without nearby lane priority, an identified enemy position, and a reliable exit.
Using W once and assuming the second cast is safe when the marked target can disengage or receive peel.
Starting a visible objective while the enemy jungler is alive, unseen, and equal or stronger on Smite.
Landing R outside your team’s follow-up range and treating bonus health as permission to fight alone.
One idea for your next game
For the next game, make every first play answer one question: “What condition makes this worth leaving my camps?” Before ganking, invading, or starting an objective, identify the visible lane priority, enemy position, and escape or Smite window. If you cannot name the condition, keep farming toward the next timer. Your test is one deliberate play per rotation, not constant movement: clear, arrive with a purpose, then convert a successful Q/W or R window into a camp, wave, tower, or objective.
To those who still revere him, the Volibear is the storm made manifest. Destructive, wild, and stubbornly resolute, he existed before mortals walked the Freljord's tundra, and is fiercely protective of the lands that he and his demi-god kin created. Cultivating a deep hatred of civilization and the weakness it brought with it, he now fights to return to the old ways—when the land was untamed, and blood spilled freely—and eagerly battles all who oppose him, with tooth, claw, and thundering domination.
