Grow safely, then make every approach costly

Plan overview

Build the game around three transitions: farm safely while Carnivore stabilizes lane, convert Feast growth into side-lane pressure during mid game, then control the approach to decisive fights. Early, choose crash-before-recall windows and trade only when Q or W can connect with a favorable wave. If ahead, make the enemy answer your side lane and use the numbers they send away; if behind, collect safe waves and preserve mana for disengage or peel. Before every objective, push a nearby wave, reset, and arrive with your control tools available. In fights, do not spend Q, W, or Feast as isolated damage buttons: wait for a target your team can reach, then use the knock-up, silence, slow, and true-damage finish to bank a tower, objective, or wave.

During the opening, prioritize last hits and a wave state that lets you farm without walking into a bad trade. Carnivore makes successful unit kills restore Health and Mana, so preserve access to the wave rather than spending resources on low-probability poke. If Q or W hits while your wave is favorable and the enemy cannot answer with a longer trade, take a short exchange and reset. If you are behind, stop contesting center-lane space when the enemy wave is larger; collect what you can and aim to crash before recalling. Transition when you have a clean reset or when the first objective setup requires you to move after pushing.

Choose the wave before choosing the fight

If you can reach the next wave before Cho'Gath and your early trade pattern is stronger, build a controlled push and crash before recalling or moving; if he has a full wave advantage or your jungler is not visible, take the safe CS and avoid extended trades inside his minions. His Carnivore rewards clean unit kills, so make lane decisions around denying free sustain rather than chasing every hit.

With Cho'Gath

If Cho'Gath has Q or W available and the enemy must enter a choke, let him establish the control zone before committing; follow the knock-up or silence instead of starting the fight several screens away. His value rises when allies can damage the target he has made reachable.
If Cho'Gath is building a side wave and has a safe retreat or Teleport available, use the pressure he creates to take space on the opposite side rather than dragging him back to an aimless mid group. If the enemy sends multiple players, start a visible tower or objective play only when your numbers and wave state support it.
If Cho'Gath is low on Mana or has already spent Q and W, give him time to recover through a safe reset instead of forcing him to front-line immediately. When Feast is ready and a high-value target can be finished safely, help him create the control window; do not demand that he cross the enemy team alone.
If your team is behind, play near Cho'Gath's peel range and let him deny the first diver with Q, W, or E. The plan is to protect the strongest surviving damage source, not to turn his durability into permission for a blind engage.

Cho'Gath is a mana-based top-lane specialist who turns reliable unit kills into Health and Mana through Carnivore, then uses that durability to control space. Q creates a knock-up and slow zone, W adds cone damage and silence, and E makes close-range attacks threaten a line of slowed spikes. Feast is the defining risk-reward mechanic: killing its target grants maximum Health, while using it carelessly can remove your strongest finisher from the next fight. He wins by making waves, chokepoints, and close-range approaches expensive. He is not a mobile engager, a pure frontliner who can ignore cooldowns, or a champion who should force every fight just because he is durable.

Pushing a side lane past the visible information needed to retreat.
Grouping mid between timers while nearby side waves bleed gold and pressure.

For the next game, make every Feast stack part of a decision instead of a habit: before using it, ask whether the unit is safe to reach and whether the resulting maximum-Health growth advances your next lane, side-lane, or objective window. In lane, use Carnivore's recovery to sustain through controlled farming, not to justify losing health for a minion. Around fights, wait for Q or W to create a reachable target, then use your durability and true-damage finisher to convert that opening. Your test is simple: each time you spend Feast, name the next advantage it creates; if you cannot name one, keep the cooldown for the next contested window.

From the moment Cho'Gath first emerged into the harsh light of Runeterra's sun, the beast was driven by the most pure and insatiable hunger. A perfect expression of the Void's desire to consume all life, Cho'Gath's complex biology quickly converts matter into new bodily growth—increasing its muscle mass and density, or hardening its outer carapace like organic diamond. When growing larger does not suit the Void-spawn's needs, it vomits out the excess material as razor-sharp spines, leaving prey skewered and ready to feast upon later.
