Game plan · Jungle
A first-arrival jungler with a real exit plan
Plan overview
Nunu wins by being first to the place where the next fight matters, not by taking every fight. Start with a conditioned clear: farm when lanes lack setup, and sacrifice camps for a level-3 gank only when W has a reachable target and the enemy has limited cross-map response. Transition at the first objective cycle by pathing toward the timer 60–90 seconds early, helping nearby lanes move, sweeping the approach, and preserving Q plus Smite for the secure. Mid game, W should create a pick, force a retreat, or establish entry control before you start an objective. When ahead, invade with lane priority and convert kills into camps, waves, towers, or objectives; do not wander after a failed roll. When behind, mirror the enemy jungler, farm for catch-up experience and quest progress, protect your strongest lane, and trade objectives rather than entering a losing smite race.
Plan by phase
Build the first approach without donating your clear
0:00–8:00; first clear, Scuttle, early gank windows, and the opening dragon/grub setup.
Prioritize a conditioned clear that keeps you healthy and points toward a lane with a real W window. Full clear is the default when lanes lack setup or the enemy wins early contact; choose a three-camp line only if an overextended target, meaningful level-3 threat, and limited enemy cross-map answer are all present. After the first clear, take Scuttle or gank only when the lane is exposed. If ahead, use a known enemy position and lane priority for a brief invade; if behind, keep farming for catch-up experience and the jungle quest rather than apologizing with forced ganks.
Game situations
Path
Choose the clear that preserves your next snowball
CONDITIONS: if your lanes lack setup or you lose an early river duel, and no enemy lane is clearly overextended, then use a conditioned full clear toward the side of your first useful play. WINDOWS: after the first clear, take Scuttle or a free gank only if the lane is exposed; otherwise reset and begin the next camp cycle. Your Q sustain supports repeated farming, while W is reserved for a real approach window rather than a forced walk-by.
With Nunu & Willump
If Nunu is on your team, make his W window easier: push the wave before he arrives and hold your escape or crowd control until the snowball connects. If he is rolling from river and you are within one screen, step toward the enemy's retreat line rather than waiting behind your tower; if the approach is unwarded or the enemy has already disengaged, let him exit and take the wave instead of extending a dead gank.
Around objectives, play for the entrance before the monster's health bar. If Nunu arrives 60–90 seconds early with you, help establish the nearby wave and vision line so he can threaten W, E, or R when the enemy enters. If your jungler is missing or the lanes cannot move, do not ask Nunu to start a blind pit; help him take the cross-map payment or disengage.
In teamfights, Nunu is strongest when allies can act during his first contact. If he lands W or roots a target with E, immediately use your damage or crowd control on that same area; if he dives beyond your range, do not follow into a bad fight just because the snowball connected. If the enemy dives your carry instead, Nunu can hold W or R as space and peel rather than forcing a backline chase.
If Nunu is ahead, give him information and a nearby teammate for invades rather than sending him alone into fog. If he is behind, help him secure safe camps and defend the winning side's approach to the next timer; a stable Nunu with Q, Smite, and a clear entrance can still decide an objective without needing a solo kill.
Identity, strengths and limits
Turn the next snowball into map control
JUNGLE · VANGUARD · SETUP AND OBJECTIVE CONTROL
Nunu & Willump is a vanguard jungler who turns movement, terrain, and objective timing into forced decisions. W creates the approach: a snowball grows in size and speed as it rolls, then damages and knocks up enemies. E adds repeated snowball pressure and roots champions or large monsters hit by a snowball when the barrage ends. Q sustains the clear and provides a bite-based monster or champion damage window, while R makes a contested area dangerous with a slow and a powerful delayed finish. The passive improves Willump's attack speed and Move Speed with a nearby ally and makes his attacks damage around the target, so Nunu wins by reaching a setup first and enabling a nearby teammate. He is not an assassin, a permanent duelist, or a champion who should force every lane: without a reachable target, follow-up, or objective reason, his long approach becomes lost tempo.
Strengths
Long-range W approach can turn an exposed lane or objective entrance into a forced displacement.
Q sustain supports a stable jungle clear and gives Nunu a meaningful monster-secure window.
E supplies follow-up damage and root pressure after W connects.
R makes confined objective entrances and committed fights costly to cross.
Passive improves nearby ally movement and Willump's attack pattern when Nunu fights alongside a teammate.
Limits and risks
Forced W rolls through neutral lanes waste time and reveal your position when no ally can follow.
Starting an objective with no nearby lane priority turns Q plus Smite into a fight you may not reach or finish.
Using Q on a camp shortly before an objective can remove your secure window when Smite timing matters.
Channeling R in open space or without protection lets enemies leave or interrupt the zone before it pays off.
Repeatedly ganking a losing lane abandons Nunu's farm, quest progress, and ability to control the next objective.
One idea for your next game
For the next game, judge every Nunu play by one question: “Can my next snowball create a numbers or position advantage that my team can use?” Before rolling W, check the lane's escape route, your ally's distance, and the next camp or objective timer. If all three support the play, commit through the enemy's retreat line, chain E after the snowball connects, and convert the result into a camp, wave, tower, or objective. If one is missing, keep farming and preserve your tempo. Your power is not merely reaching fights quickly; it is arriving first and making the area difficult to enter.
Once upon a time, there was a boy who wanted to prove he was a hero by slaying a fearsome monster—only to discover that the beast, a lonely and magical yeti, merely needed a friend. Bound together by ancient power and a shared love of snowballs, Nunu and Willump now ramble wildly across the Freljord, breathing life into imagined adventures. They hope that somewhere out there, they will find Nunu's mother. If they can save her, maybe they will be heroes after all…
