Duel on your terms, then stretch the map

Plan overview

Win lane through disciplined, extended windows rather than random all-ins: build attack speed with consecutive attacks, use Counter Strike when the opponent commits, and reserve Leap Strike for a target your team can reach or a duel you can finish. Crash before resets and use the resulting tempo to build a side wave. From mid game, make the enemy send a defender; if they send two, your team gets space, and if they ignore you, take structures or move first to the objective. When ahead, pressure sides and enter fights second. When behind, farm the safe wave, avoid fog jumps, and use your defensive cooldown to punish enemy overreach. Your transition is from lane duelist to side-lane threat with a conditional flank, not from top laner to permanent mid ARAM.

Secure the first real duel window

Opening waves through the first reset; reassess whenever Counter Strike returns

In the first waves, decide whether the matchup rewards holding the wave near your side or crashing it for a reset. Trade when the opponent walks for CS and Counter Strike can deny their basic attacks; avoid extended trades inside a larger enemy wave. If ahead, preserve a wave state that makes the opponent walk into stun range. If behind, prioritize XP and safe CS, and crash before resetting rather than forcing a center-lane duel.

Turn short windows into a sustained duel

If the first waves are even and Counter Strike is available, hold the wave near your side and trade when the opponent steps up for a last hit; if the enemy wave is larger or Counter Strike is down, take only safe CS until the wave crashes or the cooldown returns.

With Jax

If Jax is your top laner and he is pushing a side lane, group near the next objective without forcing a 4v5; punish the defender who leaves or disengage until Jax creates pressure.
If Jax has Counter Strike available, let him threaten the first close-range contact while you hold your engage or damage for the stun window. If he has already used it, do not assume he can safely re-enter.
If the next objective is not close, help Jax create a crash rather than calling him to group immediately. Once the setup begins, protect the route and let him choose between a flank and continued side pressure.
If Jax is behind, give him safe side-wave access when the route is visible, then fight around the players who are currently ahead. A forced 1v2 is not a substitute for vision or a real numbers advantage.

Jax is a close-range skirmisher who turns time in combat into threat: Relentless Assault rewards consecutive attacks, Grandmaster-at-Arms adds a repeated-attack damage pattern and temporary defenses, and Counter Strike lets him challenge basic-attack damage before stunning nearby enemies. He wins by creating a side-lane 1v1, forcing multiple answers, then joining a fight through a flank or delayed second entry. He is not a ranged engager, a front-line tank, or an excuse to jump into a 1v5; his access through Leap Strike matters only when the target, allied follow-up, and exit are readable.

Strengths

Counter Strike can deny incoming basic attacks and create a stun window against nearby enemies.
Leap Strike gives him access to units and lets a prepared side-lane threat join fights from an angle.
Grandmaster-at-Arms rewards repeated attacks while adding temporary resilience during a committed duel.

Limits and risks

Jumping with Leap Strike before enemy positions or allied follow-up are known.
Using Counter Strike on a minor trade, then forcing the next all-in without its defensive window.
Building a side wave toward an objective without enough time to crash and reposition.
Entering first into layered crowd control when a delayed flank would preserve your damage uptime.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, make every forward move answer two questions: can Counter Strike cover the enemy response, and can your team reach the target before Jax is isolated? If both answers are favorable, hold a wave, take the duel, or enter after the first engage; if either answer is unfavorable, crash only when the route is safe, take the short trade, or wait. Track the cooldown and the surrounding positions before each trade, side-lane push, and objective setup.
