Win the lane economy, not every exchange

Opening waves through the first objective cycle; level-2 race, first crashes, and the preparation window before dragon

From the first wave through the first objective cycle, decide whether your duo can push for level 2. If you reach it first, threaten a short trade while your wave is larger; if you lose the race, preserve health and experience rather than forcing the fight. Use Q and W when they secure a useful wave or trade, but do not treat either cast as a threat reset: each primes Lightslinger. Keep E for an exit unless its dash creates a clear payoff and retreat path. Crash before recalling, and build the bot wave before the first objective so Lucian can reset and arrive with support. When ahead, convert the crash into pressure; when behind, use safe wave access and health preservation to recover the next timing.

Lane

Choose the level-2 race before the first wave

If you can reach level 2 first or the enemy duo must last-hit under pressure, push the first two waves and threaten a short trade after Lucian has used an ability, while respecting the Lightslinger attack it creates. If you are losing the level-2 race, concede exposed CS and preserve health until both champions have matching levels; giving up a few minions is cheaper than handing Lucian lane control through a forced fight.

With Lucian

• If your support can heal or shield Lucian before or during his trade, time that protection so Lightslinger produces its two empowered attacks while he has a reachable target. If the protection arrives after he has disengaged, use it to preserve his next cycle rather than expecting immediate damage.
• If your team has reliable immobilization, call the target before committing: when the enemy is held and Lucian is within attack range, protect his two passive shots and let him finish the short damage window before chasing. Immobilizing Lucian himself does not grant him this trigger.
• If Lucian is pushing, help him convert the crash into a reset, safe vision, or an objective move rather than forcing a random roam. If the wave is not crashed, stay close enough to prevent a 2v1 punish and preserve his return timing.
• In teamfights, place frontline or peel between Lucian and the first diver. If the enemy commits onto him, let him attack the nearest safe target while you buy time; a living Lucian completing repeated spell-to-shot cycles is more valuable than an unsupported dash toward their carry.
