Secure the wave, element, and exit

0:00–8:00, especially before each recall, river move, or first Voidgrub setup

Build a repeatable lane state rather than chasing an early solo kill. If you can push without losing too much health or mana, crash a wave before recalling or moving; if the opponent controls the center, collect safe CS and keep the wave on your side. Use W to secure an element when a trade or retreat is likely, and avoid spending Q, E, and mana together unless the target and exit are clear. Transition when a crash gives you a visible river play or clean reset; if behind, stop contesting center control and preserve health for the next safe catch.

Lane

Trade only when the wave gives you an exit

If the first waves are contestable and you can reach the enemy before they establish control, use Qiyana’s Q and W cycles to shape the wave while preserving enough mana for E or a retreat. If the enemy has stronger early pressure or your jungler is not visible nearby, take safe CS and let the wave come toward your side. The early window is each crash or reset opportunity: seek a wave state that creates movement without surrendering the next wave.

With Qiyana

• If Qiyana has crashed mid and an element is available, move with her through the river rather than starting a separate fight. Make the enemy show first: hold vision, stay close enough to follow E, and avoid forcing her to enter before you are in range. If she is missing from lane, push only when the opposing mid is visible or the wave is already safe.
• If you are a jungler or support setting an objective, sweep the entrance during the pre-contest setup and leave Qiyana a route through terrain or fog. Do not begin while she is catching an uncrashed wave; help her turn the crash into a numbers advantage. If the enemy arrives first, peel the first diver so she can enter on the second exchange.
• If Qiyana is ahead, play around her side of the map and convert her picks into a tower, camp access, or objective rather than chasing a second kill. If she is behind, give her safe mid experience and allow her to threaten a flank while the rest of the team clears waves. She needs proximity for follow-up, not five players standing in one lane without a timer.
• If Qiyana uses her dash to enter, aim damage and control at the target she can realistically finish. If the enemy disengages and her first rotation fails, help her leave instead of extending a fight she cannot sustain. A clean exit preserves the next elemental and ultimate window; a late chase turns her entry into a lost member.
