During the first waves, decide whether your lane can safely push or needs a controlled catch. If you have room to cast, use E to set up Q's marked-target damage and look for W only when Flux can turn its slow into a root; if the opponent has the stronger early trade, preserve mana and take safe experience rather than contesting every last hit. Crash before recalling or moving. Transition when the first objective window approaches: prioritize a clean reset and a mid wave that lets you reach river before setup, not a forced solo kill.

Build Flux before you spend the trade

If the first waves can be pushed without losing a large health or mana trade, use E to prepare the wave and look for Q through Flux on the opposing champion or nearby marked units. If the opponent has the stronger level-up threat or your wave is being held near their side, last-hit and preserve W; your goal is a safe reset rather than spending mana on every minion. Before a recall or move, crash the wave so the next wave is not donated.

With Ryze

• If Ryze is holding W and the enemy has stepped into a marked Flux target, give him a clear target and follow the root rather than starting a separate fight. He is strongest when allies keep the target in range for repeated casts, so peel or zone the diver that would force him out after one rotation.
• When Ryze crashes mid and moves toward your side of the map, create a visible, low-risk play near the next objective instead of asking him to walk through an unsafe river. If he is ahead, let his wave pressure make the first enemy answer; if he is behind, protect the safe wave and do not demand a 5v5 that his current damage cannot sustain.
• If Ryze prepares Realm Warp, stand near the portal only when the destination has a clear purpose and your champion can contribute on arrival. Do not treat the portal as a command to follow into fog; preserve your own escape and check whether enemies can collapse on the landing area.
• Use frontliners to hold the first engage away from him while he marks targets and cycles Q. If he is the team's strongest scaling damage source, protect his casting space over chasing a low-value target; his value rises when he can keep casting rather than when he reaches the enemy backline first.
• When he takes a safe side wave before an objective, cover the entrances that would force him to abandon it. If the spawn is close, call him back after the wave is pushed; a Ryze arriving late with no mana or no W is less useful than one who resets and reaches setup on time.
• If the team is behind, pair Ryze with waveclear and disengage so his battlemage pattern can buy time. Avoid turning his portal into a desperation engage; use it to relocate around visible information or escape a losing angle when the destination is safer.
