Pressure the map, then make the impact count
Plan overview
Win through wave control, durable space, and a conversion attached to every engage. Early, farm W's maximum-Health economy and use Q, W, and E to punish last hits only when the wave and jungle information support the trade. Crash before recalls and build a slow push when a dive, plate window, or objective setup is ready. Mid game, catch side waves between timers, then move first; Sion's R and Teleport can turn that pressure into a flank, but only if the team can follow. When ahead, draw multiple answers and let the other four take structures or objectives. When behind, stop forcing isolated charges: group, peel with the same tools, trade contested objectives for waves or towers, and let Glory in Death buy a structure only when the map can convert it.
Plan by phase
Farm health while owning the approach
0:00–14:00, especially the first crash, first recall, and pre-objective wave
Your early job is to build W health safely, keep the wave in a position where Q is credible, and make E-through-minion setup threaten the enemy's last hits. Use Q as a charged zone when the enemy must approach, not as a blind release from maximum distance. If ahead, crash a slow push for plates, a recall, or a dive window with your jungler; if behind, take XP and farm near your tower, using W and Q to discourage an all-in. Transition when your first crash or tower pressure gives you a safe reset and a route toward the first objective cycle.
Game situations
Lane
Make his charge choose between farm and threat
If the first waves are even and you can contest the center without taking the enemy wave, use short trades around Sion's last-hit timing and keep room to sidestep Q. If he gets push control, do not fight inside his larger wave; thin safely, then contest after the crash or when his Q/E threat is unavailable. If you force him low, crash before recalling so his passive health economy and W health gains do not turn a missed wave into a lane reset.
With Sion
If Sion is your top laner, give him a clear side-wave assignment when the next objective is not imminent. If he crashes the wave and the enemy sends two answers, take the exposed structure or vision line only when your four can retreat; do not wait passively for his death.
If Sion begins charging Q or starts R with at least two allies close enough to follow, play toward the landing area rather than entering first. His knock-up threat is valuable only while your damage can arrive during the control window.
If Sion is peeling, attack the target affected by E or the enemy who enters his Q zone. If the enemy bypasses him to reach your carry, let Sion hold the boundary with Q and W while the carry damages the nearest safe target.
If Sion dies near your tower or an enemy structure, check the passive before abandoning the play. If his reanimated form can safely damage the structure and the enemy cannot contest, cover the conversion; if the enemy is collapsing, disengage and preserve the next objective setup.
Identity, strengths and limits
Make every impact buy the map
TOP • VANGUARD / WARDEN • SPACE, WAVES, AND CONVERTED DEATHS
Sion is a mana-based top-lane vanguard with a warden option: he wants to control space with charged Q, shield-and-detonate W, and E setup, then use R to create a reachable entry for his team. W's permanent maximum-Health gain rewards consistent minion and champion farming, while Glory in Death makes a lost fight potentially productive through rapidly decaying reanimation and high-pressure attacks. He is not an assassin or a free side-lane duelist: his value comes from wave pressure, terrain control, and an engage his team can convert. His risk is committing Q, R, or passive life without a concrete tower, wave, pick, or objective payoff.
Strengths
Creates durable zones that make narrow entrances and last-hit windows dangerous.
W permanently rewards safe farming while giving a shield for controlled trades.
E can prepare a target through a minion, and Q can punish enemies who must stand in its area.
R converts a long side-lane route into engage pressure or a rapid return to a fight.
Glory in Death can turn an otherwise lost death into structure pressure when allies use the space.
Limits and risks
Charging Q or R without a reachable ally, wave, tower, or objective payoff.
Using the passive to chase a target when the enemy team can kite it away from the real objective.
Holding a side lane too long when an objective setup begins or your team lacks a safe four-player posture.
Treating W's bonus maximum Health as permission to take repeated bad trades; health economy still needs waves and time.
Starting a blind pit fight when Sion's engage line is blocked, his team is late, or the enemy has the numbers advantage.
One idea for your next game
For the next game, make every Sion death answer a map question: what did the team bank? Before charging or accepting a death, identify the wave, tower, objective, or enemy cooldown that the play can buy. If no ally can convert the space within the next few seconds, disengage from low-value fights; if Sion's death creates a clear window, spend the temporary reanimation on the structure or target that advances the plan.

A war hero from a bygone era, Sion was revered in Noxus for choking the life out of a Demacian king with his bare hands—but, denied oblivion, he was resurrected to serve his empire even in death. His indiscriminate slaughter claimed all who stood in his way, regardless of allegiance, proving he no longer retained his former humanity. Even so, with crude armor bolted onto rotten flesh, Sion continues to charge into battle with reckless abandon, struggling to remember his true self between the swings of his mighty axe.
