Build a lane state that pays for your energy
0:00–14:00, especially the first three waves, each crash, and every energy or E cooldown window
From 0:00 until the first major reset, choose whether the wave serves a crash or a safer hold. If Kennen can push without losing too much health to enemy poke, crash before resetting or moving; if the enemy wave is larger or Kennen's energy is low, take safe XP and avoid a prolonged trade. Look for short hits when the opponent approaches CS, but do not spend E forward unless the enemy jungler is accounted for or the wave is on Kennen's side. When ahead, build a slow push and use the crash to reset or pressure plates. When behind, prioritize the bounce and XP over a forced all-in.
