Crash the wave, arrive first, and make the first death matter

Plan overview

Lissandra's whole-game plan is crash, move, lock down, and convert. In lane, use Ice Shard to contest the wave while keeping Ring of Frost and Glacial Path for the opponent's commit; leave only after a crash or a visible fight with a safe route. Around objectives, push the nearby wave, reset health and mana, and enter with vision rather than face-checking. When ahead, use fog, priority, and E access to create a pick, then turn the death and Frozen Thrall zone into towers or an objective. When behind, use Q to collect safe income and W/R to protect the threatened ally or punish an overextension. Her job shifts from lane pressure to first-arrival pick threat, then to disciplined engage-or-peel. Glacial Path is the key budget: a cast that creates no reachable target, useful zone, escape, or objective arrival usually gives away her safest answer.

Build priority without donating your escape

Opening lane through the first tower transition; reassess after each wave crash and before the first objective setup

During the opening, decide whether Ice Shard can safely control the wave and threaten the opponent on last hits. If you have push access, crash before recalling or moving to river; if the opponent has the stronger early all-in, use Q for farm, keep W and E for the engage window, and accept lost CS rather than taking a full-wave trade. Transition through a clean crash into a purchase or a move with a visible payoff, not a roam through an uncrashed wave. If an early fight appears before the crash, join only when the route and follow-up justify giving up that wave.

Trade only when the return path stays open

If the first waves are even and Ice Shard can hit the target through a minion while keeping you outside Ring of Frost range, use short Q trades and preserve W and E for the opponent's commit. If the enemy has the stronger all-in or the wave is large on their side, concede some CS rather than fight inside the minions; recover by farming with Q and aim for a crash before recalling or moving.

With Lissandra

If Lissandra is on your team and her wave is pushed, move with her through river rather than expecting her to cross alone. A nearby ally turns Glacial Path into a real pick threat; without that proximity, she may spend E and lose her safest escape.
When she enters with Ring of Frost or uses Frozen Tomb on an enemy, focus the same target if you can reach it. If she casts the ultimate on herself, use the invulnerability window to reposition around her and prepare damage for the moment she becomes targetable.
If an enemy dies near Lissandra, avoid scattering through the Frozen Thrall zone. Hold the space it creates, then convert the slow and delayed shatter into the next target, tower, or objective rather than chasing beyond your team's vision.
If Lissandra is behind, give her safe mid access and let her use Ice Shard to stabilize waves. A pick with her crowd control is more reliable than asking her to start a blind five-versus-five from the front.

Identity, strengths and limits

Turn one death into a frozen collapse

Lissandra is a burst mage who converts wave control and fog access into short, decisive lockdown. Ice Shard gives repeatable line damage and a slow, Ring of Frost roots enemies who enter her space, Glacial Path creates a long-range entry or escape route, and Frozen Tomb either stuns an enemy or makes Lissandra untargetable and invulnerable while healing, damaging nearby enemies, and slowing them. Her defining economy is Iceborn Subjugation: nearby enemy champion deaths create delayed slow-and-shatter zones, making the first takedown increase control over the next few seconds. She is not a sustained frontliner or a champion who should throw E into several enemies without follow-up; she wins by arriving first, controlling the center of a fight, and choosing whether the ultimate finishes a target or preserves her after entry.

Forcing Glacial Path into a fight when allies cannot follow or the return location is unsafe.
Using Frozen Tomb on an enemy when self-protection is needed to survive the entry.
Roaming or recalling before the wave crashes.
Chasing through a Frozen Thrall zone after the original pick is already secured.
Starting an objective contest without enough health, mana, vision, or numbers to support the entry.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, judge every Glacial Path cast by the follow-up it creates. Before pressing E, identify the target or space you are taking, confirm that at least one ally is close enough to act, and decide whether Frozen Tomb is for locking the target or surviving the entry. If either answer is missing, use Ice Shard for the wave and keep E as the escape. The goal is fewer isolated claw entries and more crashes, picks, or safe objective arrivals created by each cast.
