Crash waves, find damaged targets, seal the map

Plan overview

Locke's whole-game plan is wave control into selective target access. Early, use Ritual Nails and Silver Stake to make enemy last hits costly, then crash before every recall or roam. Your first lead should buy priority and information, not repeated blind dives. Mid game, schedule side waves around the next objective, move with an ally, and look for a marked or already-damaged carry. Soul Ignition is a risk budget: activate it when the movement and attack speed create a real finish or escape, because the self-damage can lower your execution margin. When ahead, invade only from lane priority and convert picks into towers or objectives. When behind, stop forcing equal 5v5 entries; clear, defend the comeback side, and punish an enemy who walks into your range. Late, enter second, use Purgatory around its execution threat, and leave before your cooldowns and health are spent for nothing.

Farm for a controlled first move

0:00–10:00, or until the first major wave-and-objective rotation settles

From the opening waves through the first objective cycle, build a lane state that lets you act without donating farm. Use Ritual Nails to threaten marks around enemy last hits, but respect minion damage and the enemy jungler when the wave is on their side. If you gain priority, crash before recalling or moving; if you are behind, preserve mana and health, take experience safely, and make the opponent walk into your range rather than forcing Ashen Pursuit through an intact wave. Your first transition is a successful crash into a purchase or a visible river play, not a roam on hope.

Lane

Turn marks into lane priority

If the first waves let you reach the enemy side of mid safely and Ritual Nails is ready, use the mark threat to pressure last hits, then crash before leaving. If the opposing laner has stronger early wave control or the enemy jungler is unseen while you are extended, take safe experience and shorten the trade; your level-3 window is for a prepared mark-and-attack sequence, not a blind all-in.

With Locke

If Locke is on your team, give him a wave-crash window before expecting a roam: help him secure mid priority, then move only when the river play is visible or the objective setup is beginning. A nearby ally makes Ashen Pursuit and Soul Ignition more reliable because Locke can enter after someone else reveals or displaces the target.
If you are playing a frontliner or engager, start fights where Locke can see the marked or damaged target and hold the enemy's peel long enough for his second entry. Do not demand that he be first into five players; his value rises when your engage spends defensive tools and leaves a valuable target within his reach.
If an objective is spawning in 60–90 seconds, help Locke crash mid and reset rather than calling him to hover early. Sweep and ward the approach, then let him threaten the first enemy who crosses. When Locke gets a pick, immediately bank it in a tower, dragon, Baron, or safe waves instead of chasing a second kill through unprepared fog.
If Locke is behind, protect his access to farm and let him play from a counter-entry angle. A teammate who reveals targets, peels the first diver, or holds a key zone can give him time to mark and finish someone; asking him to solve the fight alone with a low-health Soul Ignition activation usually removes the comeback chance.

Locke: turn missing health into a closing window

MID ASSASSIN · MARKS, SELF-DAMAGE, EXECUTION

Locke is a mana-based mid assassin who converts target damage into execution pressure. Ritual Nails marks enemies so his attacks can cash in the marks, while Silver Stake adds magic on-hit damage that becomes more threatening as a target loses health. Soul Ignition gives a temporary movement and attack-speed window but injures Locke before returning part of that damage, so its value depends on entering a fight he can finish or exit. Ashen Pursuit supplies a two-stage reposition and attack, while Purgatory can damage and potentially execute a target and grants Locke additional power when he seals away champions. He wants to create lane priority, move first, and enter skirmishes after health bars or defensive tools are already compromised. He is not a front-line initiator, a sustained side-lane stat check, or a champion who should spend every spell simply to clear waves.

Limits and risks

Forcing Ashen Pursuit into an unseen river or a full enemy wave.
Activating Soul Ignition when its self-damage leaves you inside the enemy execute range.
Using Purgatory on a low-value target while the enemy carry remains untouched.
Roaming from an uncrashed wave and arriving after the fight has already ended.
Taking a side wave past the next objective without a clear enemy-location or escape plan.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, judge every aggressive move by one question: can I reach a damaged, valuable target after the wave is handled? Crash before moving, preserve Ritual Nails or Ashen Pursuit for the entry, and delay Soul Ignition until its movement and attack-speed window can produce a mark conversion. If the answer is no, take the wave and wait for a clearer target instead of manufacturing a low-health duel.
