Build a lane state that makes your engage real

0:00–14:00, especially the level-2 wave, crashes, and the preparation window before dragon or the 8:00 Voidgrub camp

In lane, protect the duo's wave state while looking for a root that can be followed. If your wave is pushing, use the pressure to threaten Twisted Advance and control the river entrance; if it is pushing toward you, keep the enemy away from your carry and use Bramble Smash to interrupt the approach. Place saplings in brush when the enemy must cross it, but do not spend mana on a setup your ally cannot contest. After a crash, move only toward a visible play within walking distance. Ahead, use priority to contest river routes; behind, preserve health, experience access, and peel rather than forcing a low-percentage entry.

Turn lane pressure into a real engage window

If your wave is crashed and a visible fight is within walking distance, move through the safest route and threaten Twisted Advance; if the wave is not crashed or the fight is only speculative, stay in lane and protect the next wave. Leave only when the route can produce a root, forced retreat, or meaningful vision gain before the enemy can punish your absence.

With Maokai

• If Maokai is your support, help crash the wave before asking for a roam or objective move; his engage is more reliable when the enemy is forced to catch minions. When he prepares saplings in brush, position so an enemy entering that zone can be damaged immediately.
• If Maokai walks forward with Twisted Advance, follow only when you are close enough to damage the rooted target without crossing an uncontrolled choke. If he is holding the dash, play near him and attack the diver he knocks back with Bramble Smash; his peel may protect more value than a low-probability pick.
• If an objective is approaching, help him manage the nearest wave and establish the approaches during the usual preparation window instead of arriving at the pit late. Stand on the useful side of Nature's Grasp and keep the damage dealer within immediate follow-up distance.
• If your team is ahead, let Maokai create first contact and hit the safest target he locks; convert the root into a tower, objective, or wave rather than splitting into an extended chase. If behind, stay close enough for Q peel and use his prepared zones to disengage instead of forcing an even fight.
• If Maokai is behind, do not demand that he face-check or start alone. Give him time to prepare saplings, show the enemy a wave to answer, and contest only with vision and nearby allies; a narrow entrance can still become dangerous without a gold lead.
• If Nature's Grasp is unavailable, play around his basic engage and peel rather than forcing a fight that needs the wall. If it is available and the enemy must enter a corridor, hold major damage until the wall creates a root or retreat path your team can actually use.
