P
Searing Brilliance
Whenever Mel uses an ability, she gains three bonus projectiles (up to nine maximum) on her next attack. When Mel deals damage through an ability or attack, she applies Overwhelm, which can stack infinitely. If the enemy is hit by Mel with enough Overwhelm damage, the stacks are consumed to execute the target.

Game plan · Bottom
Control the wave, stack Overwhelm, and let Golden Eclipse finish the conversion
Plan overview
Mel's plan is to turn lane control into safe, repeated damage, then use Overwhelm plus Golden Eclipse to remove a target before the enemy can reset. Early, choose shove only when the bot duo can survive the level-2 and return-trade window; otherwise farm, preserve health and wait for Solar Snare access. Crash before recalls and objective rotations so mana and cooldowns are restored. In mid game, catch a safe wave, move with a reason, and set up E before the enemy reaches a choke. When ahead, deny space with marks, picks and sieges rather than diving first. When behind, clear and defend from range, trade objectives instead of entering dark river, and make the enemy walk into your root. Mel is strongest when marks matter while her position stays protected; she is not trying to begin every fight or replace the team's frontline.
Plan by phase
Early: win access, not a blind all-in
0:30–14:00, especially the first two waves, each crash, and the first dragon setup 60–90 seconds before spawn
Start by deciding whether your duo can contest the level-2 race. If your wave can move first, use Radiant Volley to help crash and threaten Solar Snare when the enemy steps up; if their engage is stronger, preserve health and accept a small CS loss rather than taking a full wave trade. Use Searing Brilliance attacks on last-hit moments, not into minion aggro. After a crash, recall for mana and return before the bounce becomes a fight. Your transition is a first safe reset with E and Rebuttal available for the next lane window.
Game situations
Lane
Lane: build a safe spell-and-wave lead
If the first two waves can be pushed without exposing your duo to an all-in, then use Radiant Volley to establish a crash and take the level-2 race; if the enemy duo reaches level 2 first or has a stronger engage, then give up the last dangerous minions and preserve health until your next safe wave. After a successful crash, recall or move only while the enemy is forced to catch the wave.
With Mel
If Mel has Solar Snare available and is positioned behind you, then hold enemies inside its center or slow zone instead of scattering after the first hit; her damage becomes more reliable when one target remains accessible long enough for Overwhelm to build. Do not expect her to start a fight from the front—create the first safe access point so she can follow.
If you are the support, then shape the wave around Mel's mana and cooldown windows: help her crash before a recall, threaten the enemy when E is ready, and avoid taking random trades while Rebuttal is down. When she has a marked target near an objective, protect her route to that target rather than chasing a separate low-health enemy.
If Mel is ahead, then play for picks and siege around her root zone instead of forcing a blind 5v5. Sweep and hold a choke 60–90 seconds before the objective; if she lands E, collapse on the marked target and convert the death into the dragon, Baron, tower or wave that made the setup worthwhile.
If Mel is behind, then give her safe mid or side-wave access and use your frontline to buy time for repeated spell hits. A teammate should not demand that she face-check river or dive first; if the enemy starts an objective without vision control, help her fire E from the approach and trade the objective when the contest cannot be won.
Identity, strengths and limits
Build marks safely, then end the fight from outside its reach
BOTTOM · BURST MAGE · OVERWHELM EXECUTION
Mel is a burst mage played from the bottom lane who converts repeated safe hits into a delayed execution. Her distinctive economy is Searing Brilliance: abilities prepare bonus projectiles for her next attack, while damage applies infinitely stacking Overwhelm that Golden Eclipse can detonate from any distance. She wants a controlled lane, a rooted target, and enough time to build marks before ending the exchange. She is not a frontliner, an unconditional all-in champion, or a substitute for sustained marksman DPS when she cannot access targets safely; her mana, Rebuttal cooldown and positioning determine whether her burst pattern is available.
Strengths
Burst that can finish a marked target from distance
Root and slow zone that create predictable follow-up windows
Rebuttal can answer a key projectile and create a brief repositioning window
Strong objective choke pressure when enemies must approach through E
Limits and risks
Forcing an all-in while Rebuttal is down or Solar Snare missed
Using Golden Eclipse before enough Overwhelm has been built to change the fight
Entering river first without a wave crash, allied access, or an exit
Spending Q and mana on poke when the next objective requires priority
Chasing a marked target beyond your team's protection
One idea for your next game
For the next game, make every fight answer one question: can I safely keep hitting the same target long enough to build Overwhelm? In lane, use Searing Brilliance only when the enemy is committed to a last hit and the wave will not punish you. Before objectives, crash and reset so you arrive with mana, Solar Snare and Rebuttal. In fights, root or slow a reachable target, build marks without walking into engage range, and use Golden Eclipse when the marked target is already low or forced away. If you cannot maintain safe damage, stop chasing the execute and reposition; Mel wins through repeated controlled access, not through forcing a first hit from an unsafe angle.

Mel Medarda is the presumed heir of the Medarda family, once one of the most powerful in Noxus. In appearance she is a graceful aristocrat, but beneath the surface lies a skilled politician who makes it her business to know everything about everyone she meets. After an encounter with the mysterious Black Rose, Mel discovered the depths of her mother's deception and, for once, faced a situation potentially beyond her control. With newly awakened magical abilities, she sailed home in search of answers—and though many still seek to temper the light within her, Mel's soul remains forever defiant.
