Enable the carry, then make every rotation arrive first

Plan overview

Start by identifying which ally can turn Nami's E, W, movement speed, and protection into the most reliable damage. In lane, keep the wave usable, trade around enemy cooldowns, and spend mana only when W, E, or Q changes the exchange. Crash before a roam or recall. Around the first objective cycle, prepare the river 60–90 seconds early and use movement speed to make your team arrive together. After laning, follow the next timer rather than grouping without purpose. When ahead, use Q or R from prepared vision and convert the result into towers or objectives. When behind, stop forcing blind catches: preserve the carry, clear safe waves, and take cross-map value when the enemy owns the entrance. In every fight, decide whether Nami is amplifying a safe ally or answering the enemy engage before casting.

In lane, protect the ADC's access to XP and safe CS while looking for short trades around enemy cooldowns and minion position. Use E when an ally can immediately attack, and use W when its bounce can both restore your side and pressure theirs. Q is a commitment: cast it when the enemy is constrained by a last-hit, terrain, or an ally's setup. If behind, preserve mana and play for peel; if ahead, crash waves before moving and convert health advantages into plates or a controlled roam.

Lane

Trade through E, not on autopilot

If your ADC can safely hit the wave and the enemy has used its main engage tool, then use E to turn the next last-hit or short trade into a slow-backed exchange. If the enemy still has a clear all-in angle, hold E for the ally who must kite or answer the engage; spending it only for poke can remove your best defensive tempo.

With Nami

If Nami is supporting your lane, let her E window become a real action: step up for the empowered attack or spell when the enemy's engage tool is unavailable. If she casts W while both sides are in range, keep the exchange short enough for her healing to matter, then disengage before the enemy can turn on her.
If Nami holds Q, do not force her to throw it from maximum range without setup. Walk forward when the enemy is slowed, cornered, or committed to a target; a missed bubble removes a meaningful catch window, while a landed one gives your team a clear follow-up moment.
If Nami uses R to start around an objective, follow the wave's path rather than splitting attention across unrelated targets. If the enemy dives your carry, stay near the protected player so Nami can chain movement, healing, slow, and crowd control into a survivable counter-engage.
If Nami is ahead in lane, help her cash the advantage in waves, plates, or an objective setup instead of chasing every low-health target. If she is behind, let her preserve mana and cooldowns for peel; a patient reset can protect the carry better than a forced fight.

Turn every spell into movement, damage, or protection

Nami is a mana-limited enchanter who converts spell hits into tempo: Surging Tides gives movement speed when her abilities affect allies, E turns an ally's next basic attacks and spells into slowed, bonus-damage pressure, and W can shift value between healing allies and damaging enemies through its bounces. She wins by keeping a carry active while creating selective catch or disengage with Q and R. She is not a front-line initiator, a standalone duelist, or a champion who can spend every spell for poke; her value falls when she is separated from the ally she must enable or when her mana is spent without a clear trade.

Spending W and E for low-impact poke, then lacking mana or cooldowns for the enemy's all-in.
Roaming before the bot wave is crashed or without a visible play within walking distance.
Using R as a highlight engage when your damage dealers cannot follow or your carry is exposed.
Walking into objective fog first when Nami's team lacks numbers, vision, or a safe exit.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, make every spell answer one question: am I amplifying a safe ally or preventing the enemy's engage? Before using Q, identify who can follow the stun. Before using W, identify the useful bounce path. Before using E, identify the next attack that matters. Hold R until either your team can follow its crowd control or your carry needs a disengage window. Your test is simple: after each fight, name whether your spell sequence created damage uptime, saved the carry, or did neither.
