Prepare the feathers, then spend the window on the map

Plan overview

Start by identifying whether your duo can win the first push. If yes, build feathers while contesting level 2, crash the wave, and use the reset to buy tempo; if no, preserve health, collect experience, and let the wave come toward you. Through mid game, farm side waves only when the next objective is not close, then crash and group with a prepared feather line. Your fight plan is front-to-back damage until an enemy commits, Featherstorm through the dangerous burst, and Bladecaller when the stored line can punish a real target. When ahead, force enemies to enter your setup and convert won fights into towers or objectives. When behind, stop forcing corridor fights, take safe income, and use Featherstorm to keep the enemy from ending the fight on their first engage. As the game transitions to late, value survival and repeated attacks over chasing a backline target.

During the opening waves, decide whether your lane can push for the bot level-2 race or should hold a safer wave. If you can push without taking a full enemy-wave trade, use ability-enhanced attacks and Q to build pressure, then crash before recalling or moving. If the enemy gets priority, give up a few risky last hits rather than losing health and mana; farm near your side and wait for their engage tool or wave to overextend. Your first transition is a crash into a reset, not a random river walk.

Build feathers without donating the lane

If the first two waves can be pushed without losing a damaging trade, then use Xayah's ability-enhanced attacks and Q feathers to contest the bot level-2 race, but stop stepping forward when the enemy reaches level 2 first or your wave is smaller. If you crash the wave, convert the window into a recall or river move; if the crash fails, prioritize preserving mana and health for the bounce.

With Xayah

If you are Xayah's support, shape the wave so she can attack without being forced to choose between last-hitting and dodging engage. When her feathers are prepared and Bladecaller is ready, hold your own engage or poke threat until the enemy must walk through the line. If the enemy support's key engage is down, help Xayah crash and reset; if the wave is pushing away from your turret and your jungler is unseen, protect the retreat rather than extending for one more plate.
If you are the frontline, give Xayah a stable first target and do not rush so far ahead that she must spend Featherstorm only to survive your engage timing. When the enemy diver enters, peel across Xayah's retreat path and keep the target inside her attack range. If she has prepared feathers around a choke, delay your displacement or crowd control until the enemy has committed, so her Bladecaller can finish the exchange.
If you are setting an objective with Xayah, help crash the nearby wave before walking into river and give her time to reset. Hold the fight near terrain and entrances where her feathers constrain movement, but avoid starting the objective in a way that strands her at low mana or without an exit. If the enemy arrives first, create space for her to farm or clear rather than demanding a blind contest.
If Xayah is ahead, play around her safe damage and let her convert a won fight into a tower, dragon, or Baron. If she is behind, do not ask her to lead an engage; protect her while she clears or attacks the closest target, because her comeback path is repeated farm and a fight where she survives the opening burst.
If your team has another carry or split threat, tell Xayah which side is safe before she leaves mid. She can take a side wave when the next fight is not imminent, but if the objective is close she should crash, reset, and group rather than arriving late with no feathers.

Identity, strengths and limits

Turn every approach into a feather trap

Marksman · Feather setup and disciplined uptime

Xayah is a sustained-DPS marksman whose damage becomes safer and more threatening when she turns ability casts into a field of Feathers. Clean Cuts and Double Daggers let her prepare lines while farming or trading; Deadly Plumage rewards attacking a champion with extra movement and attack pressure; Bladecaller converts the setup into damage and a root; Featherstorm can deny the first burst window and add another feather pattern. She wins by arriving at fights with space to attack, a prepared retreat or engage line, and enough time to repeat damage. She is not an assassin or a blind engage tool: if she spends feathers, mana, or Featherstorm without a clear follow-up, her threat and safety fall together.

Strengths

Ability casts create area threat while Xayah continues farming or attacking.
Bladecaller gives prepared feathers a damage-and-root payoff when enemies must walk through the line.
Deadly Plumage adds sustained attack pressure and movement when Xayah can keep hitting a champion.
Featherstorm can deny the first burst window and create a fresh feather pattern for the next exchange.

Limits and risks

Starting a fight with Featherstorm or Bladecaller unavailable when the enemy still has a clear dive path.
Building feathers without a planned target, exit, or objective window, then losing mana and lane control for no conversion.
Chasing the enemy backline through your own feather setup while the nearest safe target is still available.
Recalling or roaming before crashing the bot wave, giving up farm and allowing the enemy duo to reset first.

One idea for your next game

For the next game, make every major trade answer one question: where will my feathers be when the enemy must walk forward? Use Q or ability-enhanced attacks to build a useful line before the opponent's last-hit or engage window, then hold Bladecaller for the moment that line matters. Before each objective, crash the nearby wave, reset, and arrive with mana, Featherstorm, and an exit path. If the setup is not ready, take the wave or cross-map payment instead of forcing a fight that gives Xayah no room to use her defining mechanic.
