In the opening, protect Granite Shield and trade around the enemy's last hits rather than spending health for low-value poke. Use Q to contest space or create a short retreat window, and use E when the enemy's Attack Speed matters in the exchange. Choose a crash before recall or movement; if ahead, hold a favorable wave and threaten the opponent's approach, while behind, prioritize XP, safe CS, and a clean crash over an all-in. Your first transition is the first reliable ultimate window or a lane state that lets you move without losing a full wave.

Trade through the shield cycle

If the enemy can contest the wave and your Granite Shield is down, take short trades only after they use their key damage or mobility tool, then disengage before a full exchange. If your shield is intact and the wave is favorable, you can step up for a last-hit denial or Q poke. The usable window is the few seconds after their trade tool is spent, not every time Q is available.

With Malphite

• If Malphite has Unstoppable Force available, play near his engage path and hold damage for the landing zone rather than starting a scattered fight first. When he pings or visibly moves through cleared vision, follow immediately if you can reach the targets; a delayed follow-up turns his initiation into a solo death.
• If Malphite's ultimate is down, do not demand that he start an open fight. Use his E to protect the carry from divers and let him control space with Q while the team clears waves or waits for the next window.
• When Malphite is building a side wave before an objective, avoid starting a fight on the opposite side unless the enemy is already committed and visible. His pressure is valuable when it forces a defender, but the team must still respect the timer and regroup after the crash.
• If Malphite lands on multiple enemies and your team wins the exchange, immediately call the conversion: take the nearest structure, epic objective, or enemy jungle access before chasing survivors. His engage creates time; the team must spend that time on the map.
• When Malphite is behind, protect the space around his carries so he can choose between peel and engage. If the enemy dives first, his E and body position may create a better fight than a blind ultimate into an untouched formation.
